We received a small first batch of Bowers & Wilkins' third-generation PX7 S3 noise-canceling headphones at the Helsinki store, and this post contains quick impressions of the design, comfort, and sound quality.
Quality impression and design
The PX7 S3 headphones feel like a high-quality product right out of the box, just like their predecessors. The material choices (aluminum, textile surface and ear cushions using new super-soft memory foam) exude a premium feel. The headphones are lighter than their predecessors, but still very sturdy. The memory foam used in the ear cushions is clearly much softer and more comfortable than in the older PX7 S2 model.
Comfort of use
The PX7 S3 sits comfortably on your head. The ear cushions completely surround your ears, and the compression force is just right – not too tight, but not too loose either. The new ear cushions are really, really comfortable!
Sound quality
The first test listens were convincing: the sound is balanced, distinguishable and very natural. The PX7 S3 does not try to emphasize any frequency range – the bass is tight and controlled, the midrange is clear and the highs are bright but not burdensome. The dynamics are on point, and the soundstage is spacious.
Classical, jazz and acoustic music in particular come into their own with these headphones. Electronic music and bass-heavy songs are also reproduced perfectly, but if you crave a particularly bass-heavy sound, another model may suit your preferences better. Of course, you can adjust the sound to your own taste with the EQ in B&W's mobile app, but these are not places where you'll lose your teeth.
Noise cancellation and other features
The active noise cancellation works really well – not completely isolating, but clearly dampening. It effectively and pleasantly eliminates background noise, but maintains a natural sound without a feeling of emptiness or unpleasant pressure. The ambient/transparent mode also works flawlessly. Ambient sounds sound clear. These are very close to the performance of the apple world in this area!
Summary:
The PX7 S3 makes a strong first impression. It's a stylish, comfortable and, above all, great-sounding noise-cancelling headphone that competes head-to-head with more expensive headphones. Based on initial listening, these headphones are earning their place as a serious option for audiophiles who value both sound quality and polished design.
Welcome to try out these and other wireless noise-canceling headphones at your nearest Audiokauppa store!
