Martin Logan ESL X
The ElectroMotion ESL X (EM-ESL X) features a larger electrostatic transducer and dual woofers with improved power handling. As the flagship model in the ElectroMotion series, the X sets a new benchmark for price-performance.
The ElectroMotion ESL X features a new, larger XStat™ electrostatic transducer with a radiating area of over 50 square inches larger than the EM-ESL model. Two 8-inch long-throw woofers are housed in a non-resonant asymmetrical reflex enclosure that is surprisingly compact. The woofers feature custom-made, highly rigid paper cones and wide-excursion driver assemblies. The EM-ESL X’s components emulate the design and performance of MartinLogan’s higher-end speakers, including custom-made transformers, air-core voice coils, large steel laminate chokes, and polyester and low-loss electrolytic capacitors. Custom-made 5-way bi-wire connectors ensure secure wiring. The system has a frequency response of 41–22,000 Hz ±3 dB. Recommended amplifier power is 20–400 watts per channel. Impedance is nominally 6 ohms (1.6 ohms at 20 kHz), and the EM-ESL X is compatible with 4, 6 or 8 ohm amplifiers.
The ElectroMotion series features a unique XStat™ transducer that reduces the thickness of the steel stators in the electrostatic panel. This reduction does not affect the panel’s performance, but the tighter manufacturing tolerances significantly increase the panel’s transparency. The EM-ESL X’s XStat panel is so visually transparent that it almost disappears from view when you sit and listen.
