32bit/192kHz Upsampling DAC with plenty of connections, High-End product at a reasonable price
The M3x DAC is our new entry into the affordable high-end DAC range. Its technical prowess, excellent performance, meticulously designed circuit board in the Musical Fidelity tradition, precisely optimized power supply and premium construction make it an exceptional example of modern high-end DAC design.
Technical review
The M3x DAC uses an upsampling DAC design, where Burr Brown's state-of-the-art SRC4392 sample rate converter handles the reclocking of all PCM signals and converts them to 24-bit, 192kHz resolution. This sophisticated and clean upsampling solution enables extremely low distortion, preserving and enhancing digital music playback.
The PCM1795 DAC supports PCM signals up to 24-bit and 192 kHz, as well as native and DoP DSD up to DSD256. DSD files are not upsampled, but are played back in their original format.
Single-ended RCA and balanced XLR outputs have their own output buffering. Both output stages offer first-class sound quality, very low noise, high output voltage and high current handling. Excellent gain bandwidth and very fast slew rate produce exceptionally low distortion.
Super Silent current transformer
The M3x DAC continues our development of Super Silent power transformers. Industrial-grade power plugs with EMI filter and DC blocker block interference and eliminate transformer hum. The toroidal transformer with low core saturation is ideal for audio reproduction and especially digital audio due to its extremely low electromagnetic radiation.
Proper PCB design
Digital-to-analog converters are different from analog amplifiers and present their own design challenges. They operate in different regions, require specific solutions, and must be treated accordingly. Power requirements are unique, and solutions designed for amplifiers do not produce similar results in digital circuits.
We have always held circuit board design and layout to the highest standards at Musical Fidelity. We don’t believe in flashy design just for the sake of looks – the structure and layout must be tailored to each application, measure perfectly and sound exactly as intended. Only then will we have done our job. In this way, we provide the listener with a sensory experience of a recording studio, where performers are placed in a real-time, three-dimensional soundscape in their own home.
Mechanically robust
Meticulous attention to every detail of the M3x DAC delivers exceptional performance. The mechanical construction is uncompromisingly rigid and robust, in keeping with the traditional Musical Fidelity quality. The front panel is milled from extruded aluminium profile, and together with the heavy steel casing, it protects the internal components from external electromagnetic fields and shields the rest of your HiFi equipment from the fields generated by the M3x DAC.
