The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier utilizes a three-stage inverted Darlington amplifier. This design achieves a very low output impedance and is able to drive speakers with high currents extremely efficiently. Because the NFB (negative feedback) is kept very low, the amplifier is not sensitive to additional noise generated by the speakers – the result is a powerful, yet highly distinguishable and informative sound.
The M-80's power stage transistors are connected in parallel, providing excellent instantaneous power delivery capability. This improves transient rise and adds a sense of power to the listening experience.
The M-80's drive stage uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) technology. This reduces noise at very high frequencies, and thanks to DIDRC's high switching speed, the amplifier reproduces the natural, pure sound of analog audio recordings.
Top-notch components – immersive playback
The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier features a custom-designed, high-current power supply that delivers dynamic, full-range sound. An extruded aluminum heatsink effectively dampens vibrations. In addition, the M-80 utilizes high-quality 10,000 uF capacitors exclusively made for Onkyo, Hi-Fi-grade connectors (both speaker and input), copper power rails, and a sturdy anti-vibration panel, all of which deliver powerful, world-class sound.
The enclosure consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-piece construction increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance, which together ensure better sound quality.
Create your perfect lineup
The M-80 amplifier has an output power of 130 W (FTC, 8 Ω, 20 Hz–20 kHz, THD 0.08%, 2 channels driven) / 200 W (4 Ω, 1 kHz, THD 0.7%, 2 channels driven), allowing it to effectively drive large speakers and deliver rich acoustic detail. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with the P-80 and M-80 maximize the Forte's dynamic and expansive sound performance.
According to Onkyo Academy: Benefits of a Power Amplifier
The power amplifier takes the signal from the preamp and literally feeds it to your speakers. Think of the preamp as the brain and the power amp as the muscle. By splitting the amplifiers into a preamp and a power amp, you get maximum flexibility in how you play your sound. Plus, because they don't affect each other's circuits, they can deliver high-resolution sound quality thanks to cleaner signal transmission.
Audiophiles are known to favor certain power amplifiers for their characteristics that affect sound quality and tone creation. The M-80 is a power amplifier that reproduces the full artistic dimension of music and transports you into a world of emotion.
