7th generation Advanced Ultra High Current MOS Single Push-Pull amplifier circuit
The PMA-A110 features a new generation Advanced UHC (Ultra High Current) MOS Single Push-Pull circuit design combined with a differential 2-stage amplifier circuit that can drive almost any speaker with improved sound reproduction. In order to achieve the perfect balance between the subtle details of music reproduction and the power output of low frequencies, the PMA-A110 is able to produce massive current in a single push-pull configuration, to control even the most demanding speakers with excellent linearity.
High precision electronic controls
The PMA-A110 features electronic volume, balance and tone control while maintaining the feel and quality of analog operation. The smart technology provides the feel of an analog volume control, although in reality the device's MCU monitors the position of the knob and converts this information to control the master volume digitally. This unique mechanism provides smoother and more linear volume control by adjusting the curve of analog volume control in the digital world. The same configuration is also used for the Balance and Tone controls.
High quality audiophile components
Denon's engineers carefully built the PMA-A110's amplifier circuits to ensure a frequency response of up to 100 kHz even in practical listening situations. The volume circuit suppresses amplifier noise and achieves high sound fidelity. The PMA-A110 can handle Hi-Res sound sources with a wide dynamic range, where the tone and efficiency of the sound can be felt everywhere. In addition, the Quad D/A converter using the Burr Brown PCM1795 circuit operates in a quadruple configuration for optimal sound. Both channels have two PCM1795 chips working in different modes to achieve the highest accuracy and best signal-to-noise ratio.
The USB-DAC supports 11.2-MHz DSD and 384-kHz/32-bit PCM playback
For precise synchronization of digital circuitry, the PMA-A110 provides a USB DAC input for Hi-Res audio sources that support Hi-Res technology with up to 11.2 MHz DSD and 384 kHz / 32-bit PCM input signals. The exceptional quality DAC prevents jitter and ensures optimal accuracy in D/A conversion. In addition, DSD transmission modes support Wasap, native ASIO playback and DSD audio via PCM transfer (DoP). The D/A converter used in the PMA-A110 is the same 384 kHz / 32-bit and DSD-compatible premium DAC used in the DCD-A110 to produce clean, high-quality sound.
DAC Master clocking
To precisely synchronize the digital circuits and four DACs, the PMA-A110's Master Clock Design implementation uses a dual low-phase oscillator that places the signal clocking immediately adjacent to the D/A converters (DACs), suppressing jitter and ensuring optimal D/A conversion accuracy.
In addition, the quality of the clock, which serves as a reference for semiconductor operation, is extremely important to ensure that the digital audio circuit as a whole operates optimally. The PMA-A110 uses a clock oscillator to dramatically reduce phase noise that can cause frequency drift. The PMA-A110 is equipped with two clock oscillators, one for each fundamental sampling frequency (44.1kHz and 48kHz), which can be switched between frequencies to suppress jitter.
Digital isolation and pure analog mode
Combining the best of both analog and digital worlds, the PMA-A110 is equipped with a high-speed digital separator circuit between the two sections to avoid interference from the digital side to the analog section. The PMA-A110 also features three separate power supplies to ensure complete isolation of each part and avoid interference. When set to Pure Analog Mode, the PMA-A110 shuts down all digital circuitry to produce a perfectly clear audio reproduction of the analog input signal. Pure Analog Mode also turns off the display, allowing the PMA-A110 to function as a purely analog amplifier (in Pure Analog Mode, the USB-B, coaxial, and optical digital inputs are disabled) and eliminate any harmful electrical interference that could impair your listening experience.
Robust power supply
The PMA-A110 is equipped with two transformers mounted opposite each other in an anti-leakage (LC) mounting system to cancel the noise caused by the magnetic flux of the transformers. Denon's new custom-designed, high-efficiency, high-capacity electrolytic capacitors are used in the rectification, and low-loss, quiet, and fast Schottky diodes are used in the rectifier circuits. This ensures a sufficiently clean power supply. In order to achieve a simple and direct circuit configuration, the connection unit between the diode unit and the block capacitor was removed to significantly shorten the power supply path. Very thick OFC conductor material is used as the power line to reduce impedance.
USB-B, Optical and Coaxial digital input
The PMA-A110 has a USB-B input for connecting a computer and supports PCM signal at 384kHz / 32-bit and 11.2 MHz DSD level. With the USB-B input, you can listen to Hi-Res audio recordings from a computer in native mode. You can also take advantage of three optical inputs and one coaxial input that support PCM 192-kHz / 24-bit. These digital inputs improve the sound quality of your TV, Blu-ray player, media players and other sources.
Ultra AL32 processing with 384kHz/32bit support
The PMA-A110 is equipped with Ultra AL32 Processing technology, the latest analog waveform reproduction technology from Denon. Ultra AL32 processing uses data interpolation algorithms and supports Hi-Res 192 kHz / 24-bit PCM signal input. These algorithms interpolate the points that should be found before and after a large amount of data in order to achieve a "smooth" waveform that is as close as possible to the shape of the original signal.
These algorithms up-sample the bandwidth from the original content, smoothing the waveform and improving the sound reproduction. Ultra AL32 processing increases bandwidth processing from the previous generation's 384 kHz to 1.536 MHz. By carefully restoring the information lost during digital recording, the resulting reproduction is highly detailed, distortion-free, accurate, richly expressive in the lower range, and beautifully faithful to the original recording.
MM and MC Phono preamplifier
The PMA-A110 features a phono input that supports both MM and MC boxes so you can enjoy your vinyl collection to the fullest. The PMA-A110's phono preamplifier is a CR type, which is sonically well ahead of the traditional NF solution. It is exceptionally stable in the high frequency range and is able to reproduce excellent sound quality, especially when using a high-quality sound box, such as Denon's DL-A110 party model.
External preamplifier connection
The PMA-A110 has an “EXT.PRE” input jack with a fixed gain. With the connection, the PMA-A110 works as a pure power amplifier that can be controlled by any external preamplifier. This is especially convenient, for example, when you want to connect your high-quality hi-fi speakers to the front channels of your home theater. An AV amplifier equipped with a pre-out connection for the front channels then controls the amplification of the front channels with better quality through the PMA-A110.
6-block frame construction & mechanical grounding
Finished with an aluminum top panel, the body of the PMA-A110 protects the signal circuits from external vibration and eliminates the harmful effects of mutual interference between the circuits. It is configured with six separate blocks containing isolated phono preamplifier and input circuits, volume control circuits, USB DAC circuits, amplifier circuits, power supply and control. The power supply is placed in the middle, and the massive aluminum legs that support the weight of the internal components and the cooling fins on both sides effectively prevent unwanted resonance through structural balance.
