Wilson Classic retro Hi-Fi speaker
The Wilson Classic fits perfectly with today's trends, as it is based on the best acoustic design of the 1960s and 1970s. It's not just about fashion and nostalgia, but a return to a proven whole, based on the volume of the angular, wide-walled case, sensitive and large elements, and the traditional splitter solution.
The Wilson Classic is a large pedestal speaker that represents a classic 3-way implementation in a large housing. In this model, the larger case width helps to increase the sensitivity of the mid and high frequencies, which allows for excellent sonic balance.
The 1-inch textile dome tweeter is mounted on its own large faceplate with the Wilson logo; stylized brass letter "W". The midrange driver is a 5½-inch (130 mm) model with a Kevlar membrane and die-cast rigid, resonance-free aluminum body. Bass is handled by a large 8-inch (200mm) aluminum-framed, Kevlar-cone driver built to modern standards.
Two bass reflex tubes, whose diameter and depth have been carefully selected, are placed in the back of the cabinet. As a side feature of this solution, the speakers should be placed in the room so that the distance between the speaker box and the wall is at least 50 cm. The rear panel also features two pairs of gold-plated screw terminals with convenient, oversized nuts. Thanks to the double connectors, the speaker can be double wired or amplified if desired.
The frame is made of thick MDF and finished with a high-quality vinyl coating with a wonderful wood veneer pattern. Two colors are available: traditional, black (black ash), which has the effect of black oak wood, and Tobacco, which is unique in nature, perfectly mimics the noble brown and golden color and texture of dried tobacco leaves. As an additional detail, the fine brass-colored nameplate with the Wilson logo, placed in the middle of the back panel, brings a retro touch to the whole. The entire front of the speaker is covered by a black, acoustically neutral, magnetically attached grill with a pleasant, soft-feeling fabric.
The Wilson Classic is a tribute to the history of loudspeaker design, but with the vastly improved possibilities of today's materials and technologies. The bass is deep and well defined, the midrange is open and clear, and has plenty of dynamics to bring any genre of music to life. The housing is larger than modern bookshelf speakers, which enhances the bass reproduction in a natural way. Indeed, the Wilson Classic is a speaker especially worth considering if you're looking for excellent, timeless performance regardless of the genre of music you enjoy.
We've created a special Classic stand for the Wilson Classic, which is solidly made of MDF, but irresistibly reminiscent of the industrial metal stands of decades past. They are perfect integral components that not only add to the audiophile style, but also position the speakers so that the listeners sitting in front of them get to experience the sound quality at its best. The Classic Stand, which is offered separately, is finished with a textured surface similar to hammer lacquer, which gives it a steel effect.
One thing is certain. The Wilson Classic is a speaker that's hard to pass up indifferently. It provides a great counterbalance to a living room whose owner is not afraid to show off the equipment that is the source of his keen eye and musical passion.
