Yamaha's original ORTHODYNAMIC™ headphones captivated hi-fi enthusiasts in the 1970s, starting with the iconic HP-1. We've revamped these speaker drivers by incorporating the latest technology in the thin speaker cone and voice coil pattern. We've taken a number of innovative measures to minimize sound quality degradation, such as eliminating the fixed center structure of traditional headphones, ensuring shape retention with concentric circular pleats and pattern reinforcement, and avoiding the use of magnetic materials near the driver. All of this enables authentic sound that is pleasant to listen to yet highly responsive.

DELICATE, PLEASANT AND EXPRESSIVE.

FULL FREQUENCY RANGE FROM A LARGE ENCLOSURE.

The large enclosure fits comfortably around the ear, enhancing the internal acoustics. The open design ensures optimal airflow, reducing adverse effects on the thin cone and preventing sound reflections inside the back of the enclosure. This helps eliminate unwanted resonance. In addition, we have introduced a new Japanese-made Dutch Weave stainless steel metal mesh filter, which helps regulate the internal pressure of the enclosure, together with an arc-shaped projection inside the enclosure that acts as a reflector. Thanks to these features, both instrument and vocal sounds are reproduced with exceptional realism and control throughout their duration.

FAITHFUL REPRODUCTION OF MUSIC DYNAMICS.

VERY LIGHT AND THIN CONE.

The thin-film speaker cone is the result of countless prototypes, precise measurements and thorough analysis. It is manufactured by etching a voice coil with a unique pattern on both sides of the diaphragm and slightly folding it. This significantly reduces the weight compared to a traditional dynamic speaker element. It is highly responsive and brings out the subtle nuances and delicate atmosphere of the music. In addition, highly permeable micro-perforated air dampers placed on both sides ensure controlled movement of the cone, enabling accurate sound reproduction without compromising the liveliness of the music. The circular design of the diaphragm, attached only on the outer circumference, allows for unhindered movement and exceptionally rich and clear reproduction of low frequencies.

The YH-5000SE accurately reproduces the precise atmosphere of a huge concert hall as well as the intimate warmth of a small club. The headphones produce incredibly realistic and nuanced sound that allows you to sense the performer’s position and movements. The result is an exceptionally immersive feeling – as if the artist himself were performing right in front of you.

DUTCH WEAVE FILTER IN STAINLESS STEEL

To achieve optimal pressure inside the housings, we used a stainless steel Dutch Weave filter made in Japan. Manufactured under extremely strict control, the filter allows air to pass through evenly and is a key factor in creating the soundscape of the YH-5000SE headphones. It produces an incredibly rich and open sound at the same time.

IMMERSION INTO THE MUSIC.

TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF EARCUSHIONS INCLUDED.

For listeners to fully immerse themselves in the sound, headphones need to be comfortable to wear, especially during long-term use. That’s why the YH-5000SE headphones come with two different types of ear cushions. The leather version features sheepskin on the front in areas where the ear comes into contact with the skin, as it absorbs moisture and provides protection against odors. The outer edge is made of highly flexible, perforated synthetic leather, while the inner side is made of well-ventilated mesh, which ensures a precise sound image and a clear sound field. The suede model uses Toray Ultrasuede®, a luxurious suede-like fiber material. In addition to fashion and interior design, it is used in car and aircraft upholstery, sports equipment, and smartphone and mobile device cases and accessories. This material allows you to enjoy an even longer listening experience, as it fits flexibly and produces a very warm sound.

SILVER-PLATED OFC CABLES.

The YH-5000SE headphones feature high-quality detachable cables that offer flexibility for true hi-fi enthusiasts. Cables for balanced and unbalanced connections are included: a specially manufactured 3.5 mm 3-pole plug cable and a 4.4 mm balanced 5-pole plug cable. The cable core consists of silver-plated OFC cable, which produces clear mid and high frequencies and expressive low sounds. The precise braiding prevents any possible parallelism of the signals, so that all sounds are transmitted as cleanly as possible and the sound image is accurate and spacious.

LIGHTWEIGHT MAGNESIUM BODY.

The housing is made of magnesium, which is the most vibration-damping of common metals and is both lightweight and highly durable. The headphone body weighs only 320 grams, making the headphones comfortable and unobtrusive even when worn for long periods of time.

DOUBLE-LAYER STRAP AND STEPLESS SLIDER ADJUSTMENT.

The stainless steel temple arm provides optimal lateral pressure, further reducing the already low strain on the ears, increasing comfort during long listening sessions. The medium-thick cushion in direct contact with the head is three-dimensionally quilted and fits flexibly, distributing surface pressure evenly. The infinitely variable slider allows you to adjust the temple to fit your head.

PRECISE FIT. TILT-UP SWIVEL MECHANISM.

It is important that the housing fits snugly behind the ear to prevent air leakage from causing eccentricity and reducing the volume of the low frequencies. The YH-5000SE equalizes surface pressure by tilting the rotation axis and allowing limited vertical movement. This ensures that the headphones fit snugly on the ears and also feel comfortable.

The production of the YH-5000SE headphones requires a very high level of technical capacity and precision, from the manufacture of the elements to the final assembly. For this reason, we decided to manufacture this unique model at Yamaha's Kakegawa factory, which handles flagship models of grand pianos and audio components. The quality control at the facility is extremely strict, and each unit is assembled by skilled craftsmen. Only those pieces that pass the rigorous inspections are delivered.
