As with the other new Contour i speakers, the 30i features the brand new Esotar 2i tweeter. The treble has a Hexsis inner dome, which can be found in the flagship Confidence series and also in the professional studio monitors of the Core series. The Esotar 2i also gets a new, larger rear chamber. This, combined with Hexis, helps reduce unwanted resonances and smooth the frequency response for clearer, sweeter high frequencies.
The new Contour 30i has two 18cm MSP woofers and two reflex ports. Behind the scenes, we have changed the lower suspension. This is made of aramid fibers and maintains the ingenious structural properties; the ribs are of different widths, so the movement of the cone can be controlled even more precisely.
The Contour 30i still uses aluminum voice coils. We can make them very light but also larger than the old fashioned copper coils. The lighter weight allows for larger diameters, more coils, but still a low weight which means that the movement of the cone can be better controlled. That means better sound control - especially at high frequencies and high volumes - just what you need in a bass driver.
As with the Contour 20i, the smoother frequency response of the improved tweeter and bass driver means we've been able to simplify the crossover. The improved crossover filter no longer needs impedance correction circuits to optimize performance. Fewer components, cleaner signal path, better performance.
