Genelec F Two B active subwoofer
The new models have improved connectivity thanks to coaxial and optical digital audio connections, higher maximum sound pressure levels, and expanded remote control functionality. The new electronics for the subwoofers also include new power supplies and a few additional functions controlled by DIP switches.
Designed in collaboration with designer Harri Koskinen, the F-series subwoofers were launched in 2012. Tailor-made to support and extend the bass response of the G-series two-way active speakers, the subwoofers have always offered excellent sound quality, high sound pressure, and the same quality and reliability as Genelec's professional models, in addition to their stylish appearance.
The addition of digital input connectors alongside analog connectors corresponds to the development of modern streamers, televisions, and sound cards, where the proportion of digital audio connections has increased.
Redesigned F Two subwoofer
In addition to the digital input connectors, both models have analog RCA (2 pcs) and 3.5 mm stereo jack connectors for the two main channels and an RCA connector for the LFE channel. The output connectors for the main speakers are two RCA in both models and two symmetrical XLR connectors in the F Two. The F Two also has a Link output connector (RCA), which can be used to chain several subwoofers together. The subwoofers' bass control divides the main channel signal at a frequency of 85 Hz, the frequencies below this are left to be reproduced by the subwoofer and the higher ones are sent to the main speakers via the output connectors.
Two digital audio sources and one analog source can be connected to the subwoofer's input jacks simultaneously. The audio source can be selected automatically or by using the remote control buttons. The analog RCA and 3.5 mm input jacks are connected in parallel, so selection between them is not possible. Of course, you can connect different audio sources to both and use only one at a time.
The new F-Series subwoofers come with an RF remote control that can be used to adjust the volume of the entire system, select between audio sources connected to the subwoofer, and turn the subwoofer on, off, and mute. The subwoofer can also be taught to operate the IR remote control of most televisions and other devices. A third way to control the volume of the system is with the optional Genelec wired remote control.
The electronics of the F-Series subwoofers have been completely redesigned: the traditional transformer is replaced by a power supply suitable for different voltages and AC frequencies, and the new class D amplifiers are Genelec's own design. New functions that improve the usability of the subwoofers include automatic power-on (ISS) selection and sensitivity adjustment, and a new HT (Home Theatre) setting, which sets the subwoofer's sensitivity to maximum and prevents volume adjustment via the subwoofer's own remote control. This setting is intended for situations where an audio source with its own volume control, such as a home theatre receiver, is connected to the analog input terminals and you want to use it to control the volume.
