The C53 preamplifier is ready to serve in your sound system for years - even decades, while producing unparalleled sound quality. The amplifier requires an upgradeable digital audio module, but unlike McIntosh's integrated amplifiers with a DA1 module, the C53 is the first to use the new and more advanced DA2 digital audio module.
The DA2 module is based on the DA1 with extended features. In addition to having all the same connections as the DA1 (2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB and 1 MCT), it has added an HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC). With HDMI (ARC) output, it can be connected to TVs to take their sound to a new level when listening to them through a home stereo system. Popular Dolby and DTS audio formats are supported and expertly converted to 2-channel audio so the C53 can reproduce them correctly. When CEC data transfer is enabled on both the C53 and the TV, you can also control the volume of the C53 with the TV remote control.
In addition, the DA2's USB input supports up to DSD512 playback, surpassing the DA1's DSD256. This is thanks to the next generation Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit D/A converter. This audiophile-grade DAC is highlighted by both improved dynamic range and perfect harmonic distortion compared to the DA1. The USB input also supports DXD up to 384kHz. Coaxial and optical inputs can decode digital music up to 24-bit / 192kHz for high-resolution audio playback.
In addition to the 7 digital inputs on the DA2 module, the C53 also has 9 analog inputs, giving it an almost inexhaustible number of inputs for connecting any music source. The analog inputs consist of 3 balanced and 4 unbalanced connections, as well as one Moving Coil and one Moving Magnet phono input. Outputs include 3 variable balanced and unbalanced connections and one fixed unbalanced connection.
The C53 is one of several McIntosh products to receive the Roon Tested designation from Roon Labs. Both Roon and McIntosh have profiled and tested it for maximum compatibility. Roon recognizes it and sends it a sound optimized for its characteristics. Roon Tested devices are automatically identified and configured to ensure the best customer experience.
