McIntosh MC1.25kW Power amplifier
The MC1.25kW Quad Balanced structural power amplifier is one of McIntosh's most advanced amplifiers. Completely redesigned, it replaces the venerable MC1.2kW as the most powerful single-frame monoblock amplifier. Just looking at this 71.7kg amplifier is enough to convey its power and performance, but when you hear it in use - you really understand what it can do.
MC1.25kW produces 1200 watts of pure power to one channel with almost imperceptible harmonic distortion (0.005%). This amazing power is fully available with 2, 4 or 8 ohm speakers using McIntosh's Autoformer technology. By combining two such amplifiers, they can be connected to a home sound system that can compete with almost any stereo system in the world.
Updates and improvements abound. A 50% increase in filter capacity improves low frequency performance and increases dynamic headroom. The top of the amp features an updated, yet unmistakable McIntosh industrial design that fits right into McIntosh products made today or decades ago. The autoformer and power transformer remain right behind the front panel, but they have new glass cases around them.
The back of the device has 4 sets of McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks. Made from high-quality materials with excellent thermal conductivity, these heatsinks dissipate heat so efficiently that they require the use of the McIntosh “Mc” logo. They are connected to advanced high-current output transistors that eliminate thermal balance delay so that the first note played sounds as good as the songs played later in your listening. The cooling elements are covered with handsome ventilation panels. These cover plates and circular bezel ring are made of aluminum and are finished to match the front panel handles.
The amplifier contains numerous McIntosh technologies:
- Power Guard monitors and adjusts the input signal at the speed of light, making real-time adjustments to prevent potentially damaging speaker clipping.
- The Sentry Monitor is a fuseless short-circuit protection circuit that switches off the output stage before its current exceeds a safe operating level and automatically resets when operating conditions return to normal.
- The Quad Balanced design eliminates virtually all noise and distortions that may be hidden in the audio signal.
- Power Control can be used to turn other connected McIntosh devices off and on.
- Patented Solid Cinch speaker binding posts, which allow speaker cables to be attached easily, but firmly. The posts are gold-plated to prevent corrosion and ensure a high-quality signal through the speaker cables.
