McIntosh MC312 Power amplifier
Prepare for years of musical enjoyment with the MC312 amplifier. The MC312 is a great choice as a power amplifier for virtually any home audio system, delivering 300 watts of power per channel. Thanks to McIntosh's Autoformer technology, the full 300 watts can be delivered to almost any speaker, whether their impedance is 2, 4 or 8 ohms.
The MC312 has received numerous improvements compared to McIntosh's previous 300 watt amplifier. In particular, the filter capacity has been doubled, increasing dynamic headroom by an impressive 27 percent from 1.8dB to 2.3dB. This addition means that the MC312 is even better suited to handle the wide dynamic range in your music. Distortion prevention and bass reproduction also benefit from the increased filter capacity.
While the MC312 has the familiar McIntosh look, it has received some key design updates. A direct LED backlight now illuminates the front panel for improved color accuracy. The Autoformers for the outputs still ride on top of the power transformer, but are now housed in new enclosures covered by a single cover. Other upgrades include Monogrammed Heatsinks and an eco-friendly power management system. Numerous circuit components and internal wiring have also been updated. Balanced and unbalanced outputs have been added for bi-amplification or tri-amplification of speakers and can also be used to connect to, for example, another system or to connect a subwoofer.
The amplifier contains numerous McIntosh technologies:
- Power Guard monitors and adjusts the input signal at the speed of light, making real-time adjustments to prevent potentially damaging speaker clipping.
- The Sentry Monitor is a fuseless short-circuit protection circuit that switches off the output stage before its current exceeds a safe operating level and automatically resets when operating conditions return to normal.
- Power Control can be used to turn other connected McIntosh devices off and on.
- Patented Solid Cinch speaker binding posts, which allow speaker cables to be attached easily, but securely. The posts are gold-plated to prevent corrosion and ensure a high-quality signal through the speaker cables.
