The 7-channel MC8207 home theater amplifier, with a power of 200 watts per channel, is perfectly capable of driving all 7.1-channel home theater speakers according to McIntosh's legendary standards. Instead of traditional blue gauges, this model has LED power indicators. The indicators show the amp's power just like the blue meters, but a little more minimalistic, making the MC8207 a perfect choice for dark home theaters where the screen is the focal point. The amplifier can also be used in a 5.1-channel home theater, in which case 2 extra channels can be connected to the speakers in the second room.
Thanks to McIntosh's exclusive Dynamic Power Manager (DPM) technology, the MC8207 can deliver its full power to 4 and 8 ohm speakers, making it compatible with a wide range of home theater speakers. Like other McIntosh home theater amplifiers, this one does not require fans, eliminating fan noise that can disturb the delicate nuances of a movie soundtrack. Power Guard prevents possible speaker damage. The Sentry Monitor provides short-circuit protection by switching off the output stage if the current exceeds a safe operating level. When the operating conditions return to normal, the Sentry Monitor also automatically returns to normal mode.
For ultimate sound quality, all seven channels have balanced inputs. When used in a dual-zone configuration, unbalanced inputs for the two channels help.
