McIntosh MC830 mono power amplifier
The MC830 is a 1-channel solid state amplifier with an open body and industrial design reminiscent of our iconic MC275 tube amplifier and MA252 and MA352 integrated amplifiers. When a pair of MC830 amplifiers are combined with a preamplifier (such as a compatible C8 or C2700 tube preamplifier), source components and a pair of high-quality speakers, a real concert experience is guaranteed.
The MC830 is the same size as our MA252 integrated amplifier, but is direct-coupled and delivers 300 watts into 8 ohms and 480 watts into 4 ohms. The fast-reacting dual-scale wattmeter gives an accurate reading of power at both speaker impedances. Monogram Heatsinks™ add visual appeal and keep the MC830 cool for optimal performance. There is both a balanced and an unbalanced input, which allows the amplifier to be connected to the rest of your music system.
To protect the speakers and the entire system, the MC830 includes two cornerstones of our audio technology. Our patented Power Guard® technology monitors the amplifier's output signal to protect your speakers from overload; when necessary, it makes real-time micro-adjustments to the input signal to prevent signal clipping that damages your speakers. Another layer of protection is Sentry Monitor™, our fuseless short-circuit protection circuit that shuts down the MC830's output stage before the current exceeds a safe operating level and automatically recovers when operating conditions return to normal.
Patented Solid Cinch™ speaker connectors secure speaker cables securely and easily to prevent them from coming loose and potentially causing short circuits. The body of the connectors is gold-plated to prevent corrosion and to transmit a high-quality audio signal to the speakers. The Power Control ports allow the system to be turned on and off easily by sending a power on/off signal to other connected McIntosh components. A user-selectable Auto Off function turns the MC830 off after 30 minutes if no audio signal is received.
A die-cast aluminum nameplate is attached to each side of the base, and the front, top and back of the base are polished to a mirror finish. The MC830 features a black glass front panel with silver trim, blue wattmeter, illuminated logo and control knobs.
