The MCT500 is a digital unit with 4 digital outputs: Industry standard balanced, coaxial and optical outputs and McIntosh's unique MCT connector. To enjoy CDs, it can be connected to any product with standard digital inputs and a D/A converter.
For SACD playback, the MCT500's own MCT output must be connected (with the supplied cable) to a McIntosh product with an MCT input. These include the D1100, C53, C2700, C49 and D150 preamplifiers, the MA9000, MA8900, MA7200 and MA5300 integrated amplifiers and the MAC7200 receiver. When the MCT500 is connected to one of these devices, a secure digital connection is established, enabling the playback of high-definition sound found on SACD discs. Please note that regular CDs can also be played via the MCT connection.
The MCT500 can play all common disc types, including SACD, CD, CD-R/RW and DVD-R. Dual laser optics ensure optimal disc reading. The USB input is conveniently located on the front panel for easy use. In addition to CD and SACD, popular file formats such as AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD128), FLAC, MP3, WAV (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and WMA are supported, which can be played from a user-created CD, DVD from a disk or a USB memory stick.
Plate handling is smooth and quiet thanks to advanced plate transport on a precision die-cast aluminum platform. The advanced digital servo provides fast, quiet and precise operation. The audio data on the disc is read at twice the speed, which ensures better disc monitoring and error correction.
The exterior is McIntosh's familiar polished stainless steel frame, black glass front panel, illuminated logo and aluminum end caps.
