McIntosh MDA200 DA converter
Premium digital performance McIntosh's full-size MDA200 DA converter offers premium digital music capabilities. It can add digital music listening to an otherwise all-analog stereo setup, or it can be a useful upgrade to an existing D/A converter that is already technologically outdated.
7 modern digital inputs The heart of the MDA200 is the McIntosh DA2 digital audio module. The DA2 has 7 digital audio inputs: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB audio, 1 MCT input (for use with MCT series SACD/CD players), and 1 HDMI connection for TV audio connection (ARC). The DA2 features a next-generation Quad-balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit digital-to-analog converter. This audiophile-grade DAC has a wide dynamic range and very low total harmonic distortion. The DA2 supports high-resolution digital audio playback, as the USB input supports native playback of up to DSD512 and DXD up to 384kHz, while the coaxial and optical inputs can decode digital music up to 24bit/192kHz.
The TV sound is so good that your jaw drops With HDMI ARC input, televisions equipped with compatible HDMI ARC output can be connected to a stereo system, so watching TV and movies is enhanced with sound quality that TV speakers or sound bars can never provide. The DA2 supports the popular multi-channel audio formats of Dolby® and DTS® and converts them to high-quality stereo sound for proper playback.
Roon Tested The DA2 is Roon Tested certified by Roon Labs, which can be especially useful if you have a large digital music library. As a Roon Tested partner, McIntosh has delivered devices to Roon for testing on several different operating systems and computers, and has shared information about the device's design and features.
Modular in just the right places As digital music formats and technologies change and evolve over time, the MDA200's DA2 card can be replaced if necessary with a newer DA module if one becomes available in the future. This protects your investment and gives you peace of mind that the MDA200 will remain a valuable part of your stereo system for many years to come.
Analog delicacy and functional versatility The MDA200 can be connected to a preamplifier or an integrated amplifier with both balanced and unbalanced analog connection. McIntosh's more than 70 years of experience in analog amplifier technology always means extreme performance both on the test bench and in conveying life-flavored music reproduction.
The MDA200 is shipped from the factory in a fixed output mode, but it offers the possibility to set the strength of the analog outputs to be adjustable. This way, the MDA200 can be connected directly to a power amplifier or active speakers in a system with only digital audio sources; no other preamplifier is needed in this configuration. The volume can then be controlled with the ADJUST control on the front panel or with the supplied remote control.
The MDA200 also visually honors the classic McIntosh design: a black glass front panel with an illuminated logo, rotary control knobs, custom aluminum end caps, and an easy-to-read display with adjustable brightness. The rear panel has convenient power control and data ports.
