Pamper your headphones, your ears and your soul with McIntosh Vacuum Tube amplification.
McIntosh is proud to introduce the new MHA200 tube powered headphone amplifier.
The McIntosh MHA200 headphone amplifier is designed for demanding headphone enthusiasts who want to extract the best possible listening experience from their headphones. Its versatile connection options, including balanced inputs and outputs, allow almost all types of headphones to be connected in an optimal way.
A pair of 12AT7 and 12BH7A dual triode tubes serves as the heart of the compact MHA200. The 12AT7 tubes amplify the incoming audio signal, while the 12BH7A tubes offer exceptional power to drive the headphones with negligible distortion. The MHA200 uses two McIntosh Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers to ensure perfect sound quality. The Unity Coupled Circuit is the same technology that McIntosh was founded on in 1949 and is still used in full-size McIntosh tube amplifiers such as the timeless MC275 and the newer MC1502. In fact, the MHA200 shares many physical similarities with the aforementioned tube amps.
The MHA200 includes a wide range of connection options. You can connect the headphones with 3 different options: a 3-pole XLR pair and a 4-pole balanced XLR connector are responsible for a pure balanced connection, while the traditional high-quality 6.3mm stereo headphone connection enables the connection of practically any headphone. The MHA200 can be connected to a music system with both RCA and XLR connections. The MHA200 is disconcertingly graceful; at only 15.6 cm wide and 23.2 cm deep, it can often be placed close to the listening position for ease of use. On the other hand, with long balanced cables, you can, if necessary, place the MHA200 in a device rack without compromising on the quality of the signal transmission.
The MHA200 utilizes unique McIntosh technologies to create the best possible personal listening experience. The Unity Coupled Circuit transformers are optimally matched to the four typical headphone impedance ranges; 32 to 100, 100 to 250, 250 to 600 and 600 to 1,000 ohms. Thanks to the fit, the available power remains constant (500 mW) so that almost any headphone can benefit from the legendary McIntosh sound quality, performance and reliability.
McIntosh has designed and manufactured the output transformers to match the tube gain for different headphone loads to ensure the highest possible power output for different headphone loads. Instead of having to adapt to headphone impedance with voltage gain at the input stage, the secondary windings of the Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers ensure that the full power of the MHA200 is available regardless of headphone impedance. A custom, high-performance, high-efficiency toroidal transformer with exceptionally low mechanical resonance and low magnetic field helps reduce noise, giving the amplifier the cleanest possible current.
The user can select the best impedance range for the headphones simply by turning the LOAD knob. The VOLUME knob allows the MHA200 to be connected directly to music sources with a fixed volume without the need for a preamplifier to adjust the volume. On the other hand, if the sound source has adjustable volume and you absolutely want to use it, the VOLUME knob can also be set to the average Unity Gain point, making the MHA200 practically a headphone-optimized power amplifier.
The MHA200 features a custom stainless steel body with a polished mirror finish that beautifully accentuates the glow of the pipes. This makes the device showy and proudly displayed. A die-cast aluminum McIntosh nameplate adorns the side. With the Power Control input and output, the MHA200 can be switched on and off with other connected McIntosh components such as preamps, CD players, turntables or media streamers.
