The MP100 is McIntosh's first turntable preamp and is designed to help both new and seasoned vinyl lovers get maximum performance and enjoyment from their records. Like all McIntosh products, the MP100 is loaded with features designed specifically for vinyl enthusiasts. There are Moving Coil and Moving Magnet inputs with adjustable settings (6 settings each) as well as balanced and unbalanced analog outputs. On the digital side, there is an optical, coaxial and USB output. With the help of the mono switch, when playing mono discs, you can reduce the noise and get the signal reproduction right. When using only the analog side, you can switch off the digital outputs completely.
There are many ways to integrate the MP100 into your sound system. If you are building a completely new sound system, the MP100 can become the most important part of your system. Or if you already have a system with an older preamp that you don't want to part with just yet, the MP100 is a great way to add modern audio features. If you already have a home theater system and want to add a turntable, the MP100 is an easy way to add full turntable capabilities without the need for a full-sized stereo preamp.
While spinning vinyl on a record player is a great and unique way to enjoy music, there's no denying the convenience of digital versions of albums. When used with a properly configured conversion program, the MP100 can be used to copy high-quality recordings to a computer using a USB connection. The digital outputs are fixed 24-bit / 96kHz and this ensures the full dynamic range of the recording while optimizing the size of the digital file. If there's an exceptionally loud part of the album, the clipping indicator will alert you so you can lower the digital output to produce a distortion-free recording.
