The XR50 is a cleverly designed compact bookshelf/stand speaker that produces a rich and big sound that you'd imagine you'd only get from much larger speakers. The wide "sweet spot" is combined with great musical ease, which can be recalled e.g. 3-way about implementation and extremely high-quality elements. The beautifully gloss-lacquered speaker is available in either black or red walnut veneer. The magnetically attached front fabric is acoustically transparent and covered with a neutral black fabric. As a unique detail, the McIntosh logo on the front panel is illuminated with a durable LED light when the speaker is connected to other McIntosh components.
"Killer compact speaker with powerful and cheerful reproduction." - Lyd & Bilde Patented Solid Cinch™ speaker terminals secure cable connections easily but securely to prevent them from loosening and potentially shorting. The connectors are gold-plated to prevent corrosion and transmit a high-quality signal.
"The sound quality is at odds with the small size of the speaker and the power of the bass reproduction is a real show of skill." - audioFi.net Due to the relatively low sensitivity, the XR50 naturally benefits from McIntosh's powerful amplifiers. Amplifier power of 75-300 watts is optimal for the XR50. With a separate power connection, the McIntosh logo on the front panel of the speaker can be controlled to light up when the speaker is used with a McIntosh amplifier. The XR50 is an exceptionally high-quality speaker for both music and home theater systems.
