The Monitor Audio Platinum 100 3G's bass reproduction has a surprising authority for a compact floorstanding speaker. The bass is reproduced dynamically and tightly, and the speaker does not flinch at even slightly higher volumes. The midrange is reproduced cleanly, providing an excellent cross-section of the human ear's most sensitive hearing range, and the soloists' vocal tones are reproduced with palpable authenticity and presence. The crowning glory is the distinctive and bright-sounding treble, which, however, does not fall into the cold, clinical and lifeless side in tone.

The Platinum 100 3G utilizes the series-developed RDT III bass/midrange and MPD III tweeter. These elements represent the absolute top of the market in terms of features and performance.
RDT III is a composite material that provides an extremely stiff and lightweight cone. Compared to the previous generation RDT II elements, the distortion values of the new RDT III element have been further reduced while the sensitivity and power endurance of the element have been increased. RDT III is a cone formed by a honeycomb carbon fiber body and a C-CAM metal alloy sprayed on the surface, which acts like an optimal piston. The lightweight and stiff structure enables dynamic, fast and distortion-free playback even at high volumes.
The MPD III tweeter has a fraction of the mass of a traditional dome tweeter, yet it has a significantly larger active surface area (about 8x larger than a traditional 1-inch dome). The tweeter's reproduction extends up to 60kHz and all negative reproduction colorations have been pushed far above the human hearing threshold. The shape of the tweeter combined with the front-mounted deflector ensures a consistent directivity pattern and excellent matching with the bass/midrange element of the speaker. Due to its large active surface area, the MPD III tweeter is also able to produce high sound pressures without compression and high distortion.

The Platinum series speakers utilize a multi-layered and heavily supported cabinet construction to achieve an extremely rigid and acoustically dead cabinet. When cabinet vibrations do not color the reproduced signal, the end result is more faithful to the recording. Gorgeous real wood veneers and multi-layer piano lacquers produce a finish that can withstand presentation in even the most premium environments. Despite its relatively compact size, the Monitor Audio Platinum 100 3G weighs 15.2kg each.
