Description
NAD D3020 v2 Hybrid Digital
The original NAD 3020 introduced a whole generation of music lovers to true hi-fi sound. The term “High Fidelity” or “HiFi” literally means “Fidelity to the Original”. In the 1970s, more than a million people were able to enjoy their music in a new way when they got the NAD 3020 between their turntables and speakers.
The big, warm, distinctive sound of this little gem from NAD put amplifiers up to 10 times more expensive to shame. After getting a taste of high-quality sound reproduction, these customers have been enjoying their music on a new level throughout their lives.
Today, the sound source is often a computer or a smartphone, not always a record player, but still the possibility to choose high-quality speakers that please your ears is important. That's an excellent reason to choose a NAD amplifier.
The NAD D3020 is based on the same ideology as its predecessor, but jumps right into the present thanks to its lightning-fast digital technology.
The rebirth of an icon
Using the latest digital technology and applying it to the conditions of the latest sound sources, NAD injects a new, modern pulse and power into an old icon. Björn Erik Edvardsen, designer of the Nad 3020 amplifier and Director of Advanced Technology has also played a key role in the design of the D3020.
The D3020 utilizes an 8-channel 24/192 DAC, which is mixed to 2-channel to improve resolution. Thanks to its innovations, the D3020 pushes the boundaries of value for money in the same way that its predecessor, the NAD 3020, did 35 years ago.
Practical performance
When designing the 3020 amplifier, NAD rewrote the design principles of amplifiers. Instead of just using gauges in the design, we made sure our amp can drive real speaker loads with real music in real acoustics.
The D3020 delivers on that promise even better. It uses PowerDrive™, a new, unique application developed by Björn Erik Edvardsen. It enables the ability to drive low loads (current supply capability) while providing high dynamic power (voltage supply) with a low distortion level.
A new development version of PowerDrive™ technology combined with a precise Soft Clipping circuit makes the D3020 sound even more powerful than its actual power. There is also a working BassEQ circuit, which makes small speakers sound bigger, but still does not damage the reflex-tuned bass elements.
NAD TV Connect
The NAD amplifiers D3020 and D7050 have received functions with a software update that significantly increase the comfort of use when the television is connected as part of the hi-fi equipment.
The problem at the moment is the limited number of audio connections/features of modern televisions and their impermissibly poor sound quality. In today's televisions, the sound output connection is generally an optical toslink, and it is from that connection that the volume level of the remote control cannot be adjusted with the TV's own remote control. This, in turn, causes a lot of gray hair for people who want to improve the sound quality of their TV, for whom ease of use is part of the whole.
After the NAD TV Connect update, the TV is used as follows:
When you open the TV with its own controller, the NAD D3020 or D 7050 amplifier is automatically switched on and at the same time also selecting the right input (opt. 1) for TV sound reproduction. The TV is used quite normally with its own controller as before. The sound is transmitted in high quality (via an optical input) to the NAD amplifier (a high-quality d/a converter) and to the two stereo speakers connected to it. Volume control up/down, mute suppression and on/off are NAD TV Connect functions in NAD amplifiers.
Stream with Bluetooth
The D3020 is also a convenient device for listening to music from mobile devices. You can stream music wirelessly using the D3020's Bluetooth receiver from smartphones, tablets or laptops. The D3020 also supports high-quality Bluetooth aptX playback, which has grown in popularity due to its sound quality and lower power consumption than Wi-Fi.
Power that is felt
30 watts per channel may seem like a small amount of power, but don't let the numbers fool you. The declared power readings of NAD amplifiers can be misleading: a properly made 30W amplifier is actually more powerful than a cheap 100W amplifier developed by marketing people.
The NAD D3020 surprises with its efficiency: so much power comes out of a small package that you can easily drive high-quality floor speakers at high volumes without distortion and noise.
Mean and Green
In addition to the sound quality advantages of the D3020's digital technology, it achieves a very high efficiency, meaning it wastes very little energy. The D3020 only needs 20% of the electrical energy of a similar conventional amplifier. Its owner can also feel that he is doing an environmental deed! In standby mode, the D3020 only consumes a paltry under 0.5W.
NAD has taken amplifier technology to a new, lower level: lower distortion, lower noise level and lower power consumption! NAD is dedicated to developing audio technology that sounds better, uses less energy, and is still affordable. Thanks to their small size, novelty amplifiers consume less non-renewable natural resources in production anyway.
