QED XT3
The XT3 power cord is a very affordable upgrade for any hi-fi device or for example an active subwoofer that uses a traditional detachable power cord.
The XT3 utilizes QED's award-winning speaker cable X-Tube technology, which has been tested and proven to work, and applies it to the special requirements of a mains power cord.
Based on research and world-class technology, QED has created a ground-breaking power cord that ensures a clean and stable power supply to audio devices so they can unleash their full potential. As a major player in the creation of the first specialty speaker cables, and with over 47 years of expertise, no other company has demonstrated as long a dedication to signal transmission.
QED is well aware that the mains power supplied to hi-fi equipment can have a profound effect on performance. As with any QED cable, the XT3's materials and geometry have been given meticulous attention. QED has tried to minimize the 'proximity effect' that weakens the signal transmission, where the current density is concentrated on the conductors closest to the outer edge. QED has applied the acclaimed X-Tube technology originally developed in the award-winning range of speaker cables. The ferrite sheath, on the other hand, effectively cancels possible interference from running into or outside the cable. The XT3 is measurably better in many ways than the traditional cable supplied with the equipment, and the difference with good equipment becomes audible. In tests, it has been found that even the hum of the power supply of a hi-fi device can be reduced, which can have multiple effects on the performance of the device as the vibration and noise level decreases.
X-Tube technology
The braided individual cores of the live and neutral conductors are made small enough to resist the eddy currents of adjacent cores and thus do not contribute to the 'proximity effect'. The carefully calculated helicity of the individual strands ensures that the two conductors are not parallel for more than a few millimeters, which contributes to a smooth flow at all frequencies. The individual bundles are insulated using K130 PVC material (to stabilize current capacitance and exceed international safety standards), and the inductance of the cable is controlled by giving the whole a hollow LDPE core.
Practicality
XT3 is designed to be as flexible and practical as possible. Only the live and neutral cores have been given the X-Tube treatment described above. The grounding core (required only under fault conditions) is left to the conventional implementation. And because the X-Tube geometry allows the entire cross-sectional area of the cable to be kept more compact at 1.5 square mils, the XT3 is very flexible and reasonably thin despite its audiophile quality.
