Description
RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition DAC
The RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition is a compact but extremely versatile AD/DA converter that is easy to use straight out of the box. It offers an excellent combination of sound quality, stability, and in addition, two more powerful headphone connections that can power even the most demanding headphones. The new R Black Edition model features a new generation 32-bit AK4493 converter chip, further improved performance and can be controlled from a new, versatile remote control. With their 768kHz sampling frequency, the ADI-2 Pro converters are RME's reference devices when measuring AD/DA conversion, and the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition is both a USB sound card and a headphone amplifier, which is suitable as a sound card for professional audio measuring devices in the field, for challenging studio work as reference listening , for high-end music enthusiasts, as well as for ordinary home users who want the best possible sound quality. It also works in both ADAT, SPDIF and AES/EBU channels as an AD/DA converter in both directions, as well as a DSD recording and playback solution.
As a multi-converter, the converter offers balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs, two powerful Extreme Power headphone amplifiers, extremely stable and effectively anti-jitter SteadyClock III clocking and DSP-based signal processing. The input and output levels are already confirmed four times in the iron. RME ADI-2 Pro FS R also works in DSD record and Direct DSD playback modes (256 / 11.2 MHz). The two separate stereo outputs have their own D/A converters and the internal audio processing (EQ, crossfeed, RME's legendary 30-band spectrum analyzer...) is behind a powerful signal processor. Its 2.17 Giga FLOPS (2882 MIPS) performance is enough for a whopping 768 kHz sampling frequency. The AES and S/PDIF inputs have their own frequency adapter.
The analog inputs and outputs are implemented with XLR/6.3mm combo connectors and as servo balanced they accept both balanced and unbalanced signals. The optical S/PDIF in both directions also works as an ADAT bus, and with an eye on the coaxial S/PDIF and AES connection, a ready-made splitter cable for two XLR connectors and two RCA connectors is included. USB 2.0 works not only for software updates, but also as a signal path to compatible iOS devices. As a workstation sound card, the RME ADI-2 Pro can be connected to either stereo (2I/2O) or multichannel mode (6I/8O) and it works in both Mac OS X and (with the MADIface driver) WDM and ASIO systems.
The output impedance of the two parallel headphone outputs of the sound card has been lowered to 0.1 ohms and the maximum output level is +22 dBu, i.e. a whopping 1.5 watts per channel. The signal/noise level of the headphone outputs is the same 120 dBA as the line outputs, and the THD is well below -100 dB (0.001%) even at full volume. The Extreme Power system also takes care of limiting the current supply, monitors overload and takes care of DC protection. Thanks to that, the device can be adapted to very different listening systems.
With a separate power supply with a locking connector, the RME ADI-2 Pro can be galvanically isolated from other audio equipment. It also enables battery operation in field conditions.
The new Multi-Remote Support (MRC) remote controls standby, volume, balance, bass, treble, input (optical, coaxial, USB), mute and loudness functions. In addition, the controller has four programmable buttons for 52 optional functions.
